Recently one of the biggest
pieces of Portland Oregon News is
that the city is considering a pay-to-park concept which could include higher
rates at local meters, and a permit program downtown.
No Parking Meter Increases Since 2009
Did you know
that the city of Portland Oregon hasn’t had any parking meter increases since
2009?
The current rate
of $1.60/hr has been in place for a long time since the beginning of the last
recession. Thanks to the booming economy,
the city seems eager to capitalize on the increased incomes Portland residents
have and potentially solve the problem of parking at the same time.
$4 Million Worth of Fixes Needed
Another reason
why the city is contemplating meter and other parking related increases across
Portland is because the city’s debt and credit system is in need of a major
upgrade which many people have said could cost up to $4 million dollars.
Positive Portland Oregon News?
Most people who
follow Portland Oregon news might
not like the fact that the city is seeking more money from parking downtown but
increasing fees for vehicle stickers, permits and higher meter fees will
produce “real money” that the city is in need of right now.
Paid Parking In Neighborhoods?
Besides
increasing the cost of parking in Portland downtown, we could also see parking
get more costly in some Portland Oregon neighborhoods including: Southeast
Division Street, Central St. Johns, North Mississippi Avenue and the well-known
Hollywood District.
