If you plan on selling your Portland Oregon Home one of the most important things you can do to increase interest from prospective home buyers is to work on improving your garage
Although most people think of the garage as a “space” to store their vehicles, skis, fitness equipment and bikes, most home buyers in 2015 are searching for homes with renovated garages and you can easily improve your garage by following these 4 tips.
Tip #1 – Add MORE Lighting
It doesn’t matter if your garage currently has two fluorescent tubes to light it up during the day or evening hours, you should add more lighting to your garage. This will help a potential home buyer to see it as a space which can be used for exercise, crafting and other projects, instead of a general storage space.
Tip #2 – Install Additional Electrical Outlets
Another great improvement to make to your garage is to install more electrical outlets. Having additional outlets in your garage will make it easy for the next homeowner to plug in their tools without having to use a long extension cord to work on their projects.
Tip #3 – Drywall Your Garage
Most garages in 2015 are sadly still in the same shape as they were when the home was built. If your garage still has the studs accessible, you should hire a contractor to drywall the entire garage then paint it a bright, cheerful color so that the garage will feel more like a useable space.
Tip #4 – Heat Your Garage
Last of all, another important thing you can do to your garage is install a heater or pay a contractor to route your central heating and air system to your garage so it will stay heated during the fall and winter months.
In Portland we do get some snow during the winter, and having a heated garage will be attractive to most home buyers who don’t find the idea appealing of shoveling snow off their vehicle or getting into a cold car during the winter.
