PORTLAND,
Ore. – If you were in Portland over 100 years ago you probably would have been
familiar with Besaw’s because, the long-time Portland Oregon Restaurant
officially opened its doors in 1903 and has been around through two world wars
including many changes in Portland.
What’s
been the “secret” to the success of Besaw’s? It’s been good food and excellent
service.
This
little restaurant always has full sidewalk tables and lines for the delicious
brunch, lunch or dinner that they serve here.
Why is a
commercially successful restaurant like Besaw’s closing? The answer is that
their landlord decided to not renew Besaw’s lease and the property will be most
likely used for mixed-use and redevelopment once they close their doors on May
29th.
Not Gone For Long
Although
it’s been an abrupt change of events for Besaw’s, restaurant owner Cana Flug
confirmed recently that the restaurant won’t be gone for long since she plans
to reopen Besaw’s nearby with the same kitchen crew at their new location.
Bittersweet but Encouraging
For long
time Portland residents saying goodbye to Besaw’s at their current location
will be bitter sweet since there’s a lot of history there in their old
building, but Cana Fug feels optimistic that starting over at a new location
will be better for the restaurant in the long run.
At their
new location Besaw’s will benefit from a newer facility with better
infrastructure and this will enable her to grow the restaurant into a name that
everyone in Portland knows for the next 112 years.
